Pytanie #3:

What is the difference between anatomy and anthropology?

Anatomy vs. physical anthropology, to be more accurate.

Pytanie #4:

What kinds of careers can one pursue with an Anthropology major?

I would love to travel but would also love to have the option of staying somewhat close to home and not having to do only fieldwork. I have already looked up on the internet a little but there is so so much to look up. I just wonder if anyone out there has better advice that isn't so completely professional sounding! Thanks :)

Pytanie #5:

A good college major for me, similar to the following:?

I'm interested in majors such as political science, anthropology, sociology, international relation etc. But I have no interest such fields (Except international relations maybe, but not really..) career wise at least. I've found some very interesting majors such as:
Peace/Conflict Resolution
Critical Social Thought
Human Rights

These majors are more similar to what I'm interested in. I don't know what colleges have these majors besides Tufts has PCR, Mt.Holyoke has CST and Bard has Human Rights.
If you could either tell me a college major that you think i might like, or a college.university that has one of the above majors, it would be much appreciated

I don't want to go to Mt. Holyoke because its an all girls school, and Tufts is a bit of a reach school (though possible) and Bard, well I'm really just not sure if I'd like it there.
Any information is appreciated!

Pytanie #6:

Which course is more interesting, Psychology or Anthropology?

I am a pre-pharmacy student looking to register for my last social science course. As of right now, I have not registered, because I don't know which course is going to be more interesting to learn.

I would appreciate if some of you can throw some knowledge on how different or similar both courses are. I am looking for a course which has more free-writing , because English is my second language, and I would like to improve.

Pytanie #7:

What can a person do with a degree in History?

I don't think I want to be a teacher, but I'm still considering that.

I'm in my second year of college and haven't declared a major yet.

What is another degree that would go well with History (ie. as a minor)? Anthropology? Sociology?

Thanks in advance.

Pytanie #8:

What course is harder than the other?

Marketing or Anthropology?

am gonna take these 2 course this term, but am abit scared.

Pytanie #9:

How might you use anthropology in a number of careers?

Educated answers please :)

Pytanie #10:

College textbooks - Chegg vs half.com?

I love being able to rent college textbooks since I will never use them again after the course is completed but I noticed that Chegg's rental prices are only slightly lower than buying a used book from half.com. For example, an Anthropology book that I purchased over half.com was $44 shipped while it was $35 shipped from Chegg.

I can resell my book for at least $30 + shipping when I am finished with my course. So really I am only going to be paying $10-$15 to use that book for the semester. Better than renting it for $35.

Anybody else agree? I guess if you dont want to go thru the hassle of having to post up the books(which literally takes 3 minutes) on half.com to resell it then Chegg is the better option.

Pytanie #11:

career need help please?

i just graduated from college with a bachelor of arts in psychology/anthropology. I like to think of myself as a creative person... I think of creative solutions to problems, and I like to think outside of the box. I love to read and write, I love to debate. I love meeting new people, talking, and traveling. I love working with youth, and most of my job experience has been substitute teaching, camp counselor, etc.I'm a happy, sociable person. I love to make people laugh, and I think I've got a bit of a performer's flair. I tried acting before, and I really enjoyed it. I got into nursing school recently, but to be honest I think I applied because I thought it was a safe option. I've worked in daily care of developmentally disabled youth, and although I felt good about helping, most of the time I felt really crabby and drained. I don't think that manual labor is for me. Although, I would love to be a pediatric nurse. It's just a problem that I don't think I would enjoy working at the different clinicals before I get to my chosen field. I'm not really sure what to do. I've thought about law school, but I think I have a skewed perception of what its really like. Maybe its not a good idea for a bubbly person like me, since most of what I'd have to do is study and research. But I have a passion for justice, and rights. As cliche as it sounds, I'd like to make a difference in my career. I want to be involved in a respected profession, and be financially secure....but most of all personal fulfillment and happiness is important to me. Any suggestions? Should I take a year off to explore different paths? Please help.

Pytanie #12:

I dont know what i want to do?!?

Okay so I'm 15. Soon to be 16. I will be leaving school next year in may? And I have no idea what I would like to do when I'm older. I love learning new interesting things and I am fascinated with most science.. The science things include Astronomy [Exploring Stars/Galaxies/Solar systems etc..] I know I have 8 months to go till I leave school.. But I would love to go into something to do with science. If anybody could tell me what jobs are in high demand and are to do with the Science department I would be grateful, I did want to do Astronomy but I heard the jobs aren't in high demand, and I also heard Forensic anthropology isn't all that great.. Any help or boosts would be appreciated :)

Pytanie #13:

So what does it take to become an archaeologist?

I am really interested in becoming an archaeologist and working in like Egypt, Turkey, or Greece.
I am currently a junior in high school, and the college I am going to doesn't have an archaeology or anthropology major...they do have a history major though. What should I do in college and after college for grad school and stuff??

Pytanie #14:

Need help on these Psychology Questions.?

A revised approach to behaviorism, which examines mental or cognitive processes as well as observable behaviors, is called the ____ approach.

D) what psychology learns about one race is probably not true about other races

Pytanie #15:

How many/which grad schools should I apply to?

So there are roughly a dozen schools that I have looked into and have made it onto my shortlist for grad school, but I've read elsewhere that you should only ask people to write letters of recommendation to three to five schools. I am stretched to get the 3 or 4 people that I need to apply to any grad school and am not sure where I should apply.

There is one school whose program is exactly what I am looking for, but the program is hosted in a different department (Anthropology) from my degree (Religion) and their average grad student has an undergraduate GPA that is .5 points higher than mine. Based on the stats that they give on their website, I doubt I will get admission.

Other schools don't match as closely with my desired area of study, but I feel much more confident about getting in. The biggest problem with these schools is that they offer less or no financial package and/or only offer a M.A. rather than a Ph.D. program (which includes the M.A. completed in the first two years of study)

So there are a few schools on my list that fall in both categories. Should I try to apply to all of them or just focus on the ones I think I have the best chance of getting into?

Pytanie #16:

Pytanie #18:

Advice for a high school drop out on getting into college?

I dropped out of high school and got my GED soon after. Now I'm looking to further my education. My end goal is to have a degree in Anthropology. I never took a foreign language in high school but I'm conversationally functional in Spanish. If anyone could offer some advice or web sites that could help me go about realizing my a for mentioned goal I would be very great full. I will be studying in Texas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area if that helps. Im thinking I'll have to start out at a technical school before I can enroll in college because of my GED, am I correct in assuming this?
Thanks in advance!!

Pytanie #19:

What are the major differences between an Anthropology major and a History major?

I'm a senior beginning the application process. I consistently analyze people to the point where I am often told I should be a psychiatrist, but I also analyze culture and history to the same extent. Because of this, I was pretty positive I was going to major in anthropology (along with possibly minoring in classics since I wish to work more with ancient history). The other day I was looking at a website for a class about choosing careers. I would love to work in an environment more closely related to history such as a museum, but the website does not recommend anthropology for such a career.

So my question is would anthropology bar me from a museum or history based job, rather setting me up for marketing or business? If so, what are the differences in focus between these to majors that would lead two different careers?
Also, I plan on double majoring with Marketing since my parents and I feel it will make it easier for me to find a job. This is why I'm worried that I will end up leaning more toward business and away from history since I can only get a minor in classics if the school puts a lot of focus on multi-majors.
1. I do know the basics of what each major is, i wanted to know the differences in terms of careers
2. I know many schools don't allow you to declare double major at first but EVERY school I am looking at allows double majors in general, and most promote it a great deal
3. Thank you, I do realize jobs are slim and that further schooling is required for a good opportunity. I go to a high school with almost 5,000 students so I am well prepared and willing to deal with a competitive atmosphere.

Pytanie #20:

What is sociology and anthropology? HELP homework question?

Pytanie #21:

Pytanie #22:

I need help with a history assignment?

Part 2: This part will be submitted as 01.03b Archaeology and Anthropology Part 2. Because of your expertise in archaeology, you have just been asked to assist with the assessment of a recent find for a new exhibit at the Museum. Unfortunately, your observers at the site only have access to a fax machine. They have faxed you the following description of the site:

*

This site was discovered outdoors in an uncovered area.
*

The site includes a circular concrete object 3' 6" high and 5' in diameter, with a base underneath which connects to the ground.
*

The circular concrete object has another concrete object of much smaller proportions on each side of it.
*

The two smaller objects are 1 and 1/2' high, 5' in length and curved in a half-moon shape.
*

Each of the two smaller objects also has an extension underneath that allows the object to rest upon a flat area made up of red bricks.
*

The red bricks cover a space of 20' by 30'.

These artifacts were found at the site:

*

Two small square objects with a thin wax coating. The objects have small spout openings with a strong smell permeating from the interior.
*

Three cylinder shaped metal objects small and light enough to hold in one hand. Ants are crawling inside and out of each object.
*

One hard-paper covered object containing hundreds of individual slices inside. Pictures, writings, and maps are on the slices.
*

One additional hard-paper covered object containing individual slices with numbers and writings on each of the slices.
*

One soft, crumpled, paper object with a small amount of rose coloring.
*

Five metal objects with jagged edges secured on a small metal ring.

Now that you have read the information provided by your observers, the Director has asked you to come up with your own hypothesis concerning this site. Please note, this assignment requires you to use your imagination. There are no right or wrong answers in your identifications, as long as you provide a logical hypothesis including each of the objects. Your presentation is very important. You should record your findings and submit answers to the following questions in a report to the "Director of the Museum."

Items that must be in your report:

*

An answer to the question, "What is a hypothesis?"
*

An assessment of each of the objects. Identify what you think each object is.
*

A time period associated with the objects.
*

The name or type of site you are viewing.
*

An answer to the following questions:
o

Were the objects at the site left by people?
o

If so, how many people were present?
o

Can you determine the gender of the people?
* A suggested scenario or story representing how the objects were left behind. Be thorough, logical, and creative.
how do i do it?

Pytanie #28:

What university is the best of them in architecture and anthropology school?

Hey,yesterday i also aksed a question about some universities in US that are good(and not so expensive as for example Harvard) that i could go for study architecture. So i want to tell you about me and after a searching that i did i would liek to help me.I'm from Greece and i speak Greek,French and until 18 i'll have started spanish courses.I want to study or Anthropology or Architecture. In this part i'd like to tell that i have american identity too ebcause my grandpas imigrated there some tyears ago and my dad borned there. So the schools that i have in my mind(about architecture) are the Berkeley University(Univeristy of California),University of Barcelona,University of Paris...about Anthropology i've listened that Berkeley and University of Michigan have the best programs..any help?i don't really know what i have to do and what i want..What are the best architecture and anthropology universities in the world..and i mean about the not so expensive schools(not cheap but not expenisve as Harvard,Yale,Colummbia etc.)Better Europe or USA?Sorry about my english but...thanks if someone knows!

Pytanie #29:

MacBook Pro or PC Laptop?

Okay, so I'm heading into my first year of university in September and still need to decide on a laptop. I am working towards a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in anthropology and history, so word processing is most necessary.

I am really liking the MacBook Pro because of it's ease of use and everything I've owned from Apple has just worked-- if it hasn't, Apple's customer service has taken care of it without any fuss. But the problem is the price. It is indeed a very expensive piece of technology, but is it worth it? Will it last 4/5 years for me to finish my degree with it?

Compared to a cheaper PC laptop, which, I have experienced, last 1-2 years, before it starts to become terribly unresponsive, slow, and overrun with viruses and other problems. I guess what I am essentially asking is whether or not a MacBook is worth the big bucks in the long run vs. a PC I would have to replace halfway, or sooner, though my program.

I would really appreicate some input, possibly from some of you who own(ed) both PC and Mac laptops, and use them for work or school work. Are they worth it? Do they really work well? Is it good use of my limited funds? Or should I go for something cheaper, run my luck, and replace if need be?

Sorry for the length, but please help me decide! Thank you muchly:)

Pytanie #30:

I'm scared. What if I end up sucking at my chosen career?

I'm an anthropology major and I haven't really decided which subfield I want to go into in grad school; I'm thinking linguistic anthropology, maybe visual or religious. Anyway, what if I just end up being some really poopy, mediocre dummy, like this one chick in one of my classes who is also an anthro major but always has the dumbest, eyeroll-inducing thoughts? What's it all worth if I end up being of little value to my field? :-(
PE2008: LOL! You could be right. I should have been smart and chosen to study rat-racing for a living, sold my soul for 60K a year for something I have no interest in... My happiness and the whole point to my life should be worth a three-bedroom, a Honda and a weekly trip to Chili's, right? Good trade-off there. Where do I sign up?
Light Cloud: Yeah, right. Would you say the same thing to someone with Down Syndrome? I don't care how dedicated you are. If you're naturally dumb you won't accomplish jack.

I've never thought I was dumb, but the post-PhD world will be a whole 'nuther animal. There will be other smart people, and many will undoubtedly be smarter or more capable than me.
Special Recipe: I want to go into research. I could do academia if all else fails, but it's not my first choice.
Sophia: "Sounds like that one chick is at least showing some kind of interest in the field, eye-rolling or not. Who are you really rolling your eyes at? Look in the mirror and I bet you'll answer all of your own questions."

Uhh, I thought I made that clear: I'm rolling my eyes at the possibility that I might end up being exactly what I see in her - someone who means well, has lots of interest in the field, but is way too stupid to actually contribute anything of value to it.

So, since your purpose in asking me that was to insinuate this very answer, and I had already stated it clearly inside my question, you are an idiot.
Oops, that last one wasn't for Sophia, it was for Special Recipe.

Pytanie #34:

Evolution+Monogamy = ?

I believe in the theory of evolutions and humans (amongst everything else) are constantly evolving. Compared to the past, most of the world today believe a monogamous relationship is the right way to go. However, our animalistic instincts usually get in the way and our lust for another sexual partner is very hard to suppress.

However, in a few million years (if we still exist), does that mean that monogamy would be much easily achieved because we've evolved by trying to suppress our appetite?

I would like to hear somebody knowledgeable in anthropology/evolution

Pytanie #41:

Would it be too much to add a foreign language class on top of this schedule?

I'm a college freshman with over 40 incoming credits (which would make me technically a sophomore, I believe); but I still think my schedule is too light. I'm taking General chemistry (no lab, unfortunately), Calculus 1, Intro to Linguistics, and Anthropology, for a total of 13 credit hours, just shy of the 1 credit-hour needed for preferential status when applying for late admission to the Honors program here. Most of the beginning foreign language courses are 5 credits; would an 18-hour course load be too much for the first semester? (I already have my foreign language requirements fulfilled; I'm just interested in taking a language class).

Pytanie #47:

What government jobs can I get with a Bachelors degree in anthropology?

I'll be graduating from UC San Diego in 2012 with a Bachelors degree in Anthropology (concentration Biological Anthropology). I would really like to get a job through the government that has decent pay (above 40k a year) and great benefits as well as normal work hours.

What sort of job can I get with an Anthropology degree? I've looked all through the USAJOBS and government site but I was hoping someone could be more specific with me.

Just a side note: I'll be living in Northern California.

Thank you so much for your help!

Pytanie #48:

Out of the following subjects what would you choose?

What's happening is this:
I'm going to study psychology but for the first year of the course you have to study psychology along with 2 other subjects. Second year is when you take full psychology. Thats just the way its done in my country. Anyway, admission to second year psychology isn't guaranteed due to professional requirements etc. I know I'll make the cut but JUST IN CASE, I'm wondering what other subjects to choose because if you don't make the cut, you have to continue with your other 2 subjects. These other subjects are a 3 year BA with masters and doctor postgrad options. So which would you choose, just for one year?

Computer Science
Anthropology
Philosophy
Economics
Mathematical Studies
Statistics.

I only need one of these because I've already chosen Mathematical Physics. Thanks for your brain power!

Pytanie #49:

As someone who majored in Anthropology, do you think you would need one on an extrasolar spaceflight?

Though the term Anthropology is the study of man (Humans), would it be necessary to have a PhD (No, I only have a B.A.) in Anthropology to survey a planet if they had indigenous people (not being Homo Sapiens of course)?

I mostly dealt with Evolution and New World Archaeology. Don't you think Archaeology would come in handy if the Astronauts found ruins on an extrasolar planet?

...and yes I watch too much Star Trek.
I have watched Stargate.

Wouldn't it be prudent to have Biological Scientists on a space flight to an extrasolar planet that we discovered life on?
I know we haven't had man flight beyond the Moon. hopefully one day we'll actually visit Mars and actually leave the Solar system and head to Alpha Centauri or some other system.

Pytanie #50:

Thinking of majoring in Anthropology.... Any advice?

I've always been the artsy type but I do love science. Aaaand there just seems to be more career opportunities for science majors than art majors.

Any advice for me? I'm thinking maybe archeology or cultural anthropology but nothing is set in stone yet...
@milan e: Thanks but that doesn't exactly help me. Anyone else have any advice? Maybe on classes I should take? Any anthropology majors that could share their experiences?
